Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Marion County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server and analytics operations collect technical details when a page loads, including:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device’s assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as which pages are visited most and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving page performance
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Routing a submitted query to the selected search provider
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Marion County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Marion County Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, and ISP Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search boxes. Information entered there is handled under the selected partner’s privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider sets its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query because this site cannot control them.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Marion County government, court portals, Illinois agencies, legal resources, or commercial search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination’s privacy policy governs. Its policy should be reviewed before personal details are submitted.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising. That processing is controlled by those providers.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Advertising networks that serve page advertisements
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query submitted to their tool
- Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information collected through the site. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure, however, and this policy does not promise that unauthorized access or a breach can never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, deletion may be requested.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with applicable privacy and consumer-protection law. The Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, governs public bodies rather than this private site. The Uniform Conviction Information Act, 20 ILCS 2635, provides access and correction routes for Illinois State Police conviction information. For data maintained directly here, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal information held about them
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion of retained personal data
- Opt out of processing where applicable law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised. Any revision will be posted here and identified by a new effective date, so the current terms remain available on the same page.
Effective date: July 20, 2026
